2011 Selection

The picture book "Sir Ryan's Quest" by Connecticut author and illustrator Jason Deeble has been chosen as the 2011 "One Book, Every Young Child" selection.
Ryan crawls into a kitchen cupboard one morning and imagines himself an audience with the great king of pots, thus beginning a pint-sized epic of knights and dragons, wizards and warriors. In his meeting with the king of pots, Ryan is made a knight and sent on a quest. His familiar environs suddenly change into wondrous, textured worlds inhabited by colorful creatures.

About One Book
Twelve libraries in southeastern Connecticut and the Connecticut Library Consortium, are proud to announce the second annual “One Book, Every Young Child” program aimed at highlighting the importance of early literacy development.
Similar to Eastern Connecticut's "One Book, One Region"” program and based on the award-winning "Pennsylvania One Book, Every Young Child" program, a single picture book will serve as the inspiration for a series of events to be held this winter and spring with the goal of encouraging parents and other adult caregivers to read early and often to their preschool children.
This program is made possible by the generous funding of the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut.
