2009 Selection

The picture book “The Big Storm: A Very Soggy Counting Book” by Connecticut author and illustrator Nancy Tafuri has been chosen as the first “One Book, Every Young Child” selection.
Dark black clouds start to gather. The wind begins to blow. A storm is coming! Count from 1 to 10 as Bird, Mouse, Rabbit, and their friends take shelter in a cozy hollow. The animals are safe for the night, but who else is hiding in the cave with them?

About One Book
Twelve libraries in southeastern Connecticut and the Connecticut Library Consortium, are proud to announce a new program aimed at highlighting the importance of early literacy development called “One Book, Every Young Child.”
Similar to Eastern Connecticut’s “One Book, One Region” program and based on the award-winning “Pennsylvania One Book, Every Young Child” program, a single picture book will serve as the inspiration for a series of events to be held from November, 2009 through February, 2010 with the goal of encouraging parents and other adult caregivers to read early and often to their preschool children.
This program is made possible by the generous funding of the Community Foundation of Southeastern Connecticut.
